Beth Townsend was appointed by Gov. Terry Branstad as director of Iowa Workforce Development. Townsend is a lawyer and an Air Force veteran and previously served as the director of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, where she was credited with turning around a dysfunctional agency with a long backlog of unfinished work.

At that time, Governor Branstad said. “As director of Iowa Workforce Development, I’m confident Beth will vigorously work to continue our efforts to help job creators find a talented and capable workforce.”

Since then, Director Townsend has worked tirelessly to advance the Future Ready Iowa Initiative and has greatly supported and enhanced the efforts of the ABI Foundation’s Elevate Advanced Manufacturing effort from its inception.
