Manufacturing is at the heart of Iowa’s economy. 

The products we produce – both big and small – generate the energy we use, help us feed the world and are infused and integral to the operations at countless businesses.

And yet the manufacturing industry is changing – fast. It’s faced with pressure from rapid technological change, workforce demographic shifts and international trade challenges. But the industry is dynamically evolving to meet those challenges and is working to position itself and Iowa for the future.

This annual publication and website is the Business Record’s effort to help face those challenges by spotlighting future trends in the industry, honoring its leaders, highlighting the products built in this state, and elevating the perception of the industry for future generations of workers.
